Cool Cruisers History

The car club was organized in October of 1989 as the WCVS (WCVS Radio Station) Old Style Cruisers. WCVS advertised on-air that you could join the car club by dropping by the station, completing an application and paying a $2.00 fee.

In 1990 the club changed its name to WMAY Golden Oldies. In 1995 the name was changed again to the club’s current name, Cool Cruisers Car Club. This was in conjunction with the KQQl 101.9 Radio Station.

Currently the club has 200 plus members, with several of the original members (from 1989) still active in the club.

The purpose of the club is to have fun in socially acceptable events such as car cruise-ins, car shows, road trips, club meetings, charitable activities and other family-oriented activities for a member to show off their vehicle.

The club raises money throughout the year for charitable organization in the Springfield area.

Since the club’s origin in 1989, members have raised in excess of $150,000 for charitable organizations. These include Crime Stoppers, Animal Protective League, Bulletproof Vests for Springfield Police Departments, American Cancer Society (Breast Cancer), New Berlin Fire Department, Fifth Street Renaissance, Wreath Across America, Downs Syndrone, Peacemaker Project 703 and many other Springfield area organizations.

This could not been done without the help of the public that attend our cruises and the fund raised by club members. If you have a car and are interested in joining please write, email us or get a membership application from the Membership page.
